Two people go to a cliff to jump into the water below.
Neither is stupid so they both check to see where they will be jumping and that there's a good depth of water and no rocks below.
They climb to the top and the first person runs off the edge immediately jumping in with a perfect splash at the bottom before coming up yelling for joy and full of the rewards of his accomplishment.
The second person goes to the edge and looks at the water below.
Yes the water is still there and unless the earth moved in the last few minutes there's enough of it to break his fall and have him bobbing up safely seconds later, wet but happy.
He walks back then edges closer once again rechecking the water.
His mind is working overtime at all the possibilities of what can happen.
He goes through all the things that can go wrong.
He repeats the process going over everything he doesn't need to think about... Things he shouldn't be thinking about.
Finally after an excruciating time of deliberation he decides to make the jump but the fear that has consumed him over the recent minutes has turned his legs into jelly and as he tries to run off the cliff he can barely gather enough speed to reach the edge before tripping on the only rock in the ground.
He falls head first and hits the only tree that is growing out of the side of the cliff.
It would save his fall but today the only branch he grabs breaks off and he continues to fall.
Tumbling through the sky he finally hits the water below but due to the course he has taken in his fall, which was determined by his attitude he lands in a shallow section of water with rocks below.
He cracks his head and sadly dies on the spot.
The first person swims over, steals his wallet and finds there is money in it.
Leaving the body floating in the water, he goes to the nearest shop and buys a bar of chocolate which he enjoys as he sits by the pool.
Another person who sees what has just happened comes up to him and asks 'what are you doing?' to which he replies 'celebrating the fact that I didn't let fear kill me like that guy'
